The legacy of Westside

In 1946 Frank and Mable Davis organized Westside Missionary Baptist Church in their home. In 1947 the first church building was constructed where they held regular church services and Bible studies.

 

W.P. (Billy) Hubbard, John Ed Brackins, J.C. Caldwell, James Neal and others were some of the preachers to help sanction Westside Missionary Baptist Church.

After the completion of the building located on 10th St. in Decatur, AL Minister Hubbard was name the first pastor of Westside Missionary Baptist Church.

In 1960 Pastor Earl Scruggs was called to the pastoral position and served for approximately two years. After which Rev. James McGahee was elected as the third pastor in 1962 and served until his death in 1970.

Pastor George A. Smith was elected as the fourth pastor of Westside Missionary Baptist Church in 1970. Under his leadership a new church building was erected in 1997, and a fellowship Hall (the old church building) was remodeled and named The Davis Center after the church founders. Pastor Smith served as pastor for 43 years and sustained a membership of approximately 200 members until his retirement in December of 2013.

In 2014 Pastor Edwin Crump was elected as pastor, Dr. Sylvester Truss was elected as the sixth pastor of Westside and served until his death in July of 2022.

In June of 2023, Pastor Keenan Nichols was elected as the seventh pastor of Westside Missionary Baptist church where he serves a thriving body of believers and the community.
